This year we decided to finish our basement. Our house was built in 1935, the basement had never been finished, was dark, and generally not useable space. We opted to pursue three bids and Al's was highly competitive. When we met Al we could tell he did not want to cut corners and that his basement work experience would get us to where we wanted to go. We had not worked with him before but his character convinced us to hire him.

Al's company planned accordingly and provided us with computer generated sketches of the layout. His team arrived on the first day when they said they would and worked on our project straight through to completion, including the changes we introduced along the way. We couldn't have been more pleased with the work, but equally we were pleased with his team; all very friendly people with strong work ethic. The basement required MUCH creativity and Al's team delivered within the three week time frame originally estimated.

Becky and I wanted to thank you for the absolutely amazing job you did in finishing our basement.

To all those searching for a trustworthy contractor…I spent a lot of time searching for the “right” contractor to handle this large project, including extensive internet searches and interviewing multiple contractors that were highly rated on Angie’s List.  When I came across ACC and their website, I was particularly impressed with the upfront discussion on costs, something that I had not found on any other contractor’s website.  Still, we met with several contractors before making our decision.  As soon as I met Al, I knew he was going to be our contractor…if the price was right.  The level of comfort that he gave us from the moment he entered our home was a key selling point.  He went above and beyond to help us plan even before we had a signed contract, often emailing us updated plans after midnight.  When we received his quote, we were pleasantly surprised that he beat his competitors.  We had found our contractor!  When construction began, we once again were blown away by how professional and courteous his team was.  Al, Andrew, Andres, and Matt took time to listen to our desires and creatively met each and every one of them.  We made changes along the way and
 

Al worked with us to keep the cost in line.  He’s in a business to make money, as he should be, but I never once felt likeI was being nickled and dimed.  There were so many “above and beyond” touches that the team completed at no cost, it made me feel like the most valued customer! During construction we went away for vacation but felt comfortable enough to let Al and his team work in the basement while we were away.  Al sent us pictures of the progress while we were away.  We had some issues with some products we ordered from third parties and Al handled them, allowing us to enjoy our vacation.  Finally, inspectors and other contractors (carpet, granite, etc.) all commented on the high quality of work performed by ACC, which in and of itself is the highest compliment.  The basement looks amazing and we look forward to using Al and ACC on future projects!

Imagine your basement is allegedly half finished and the bit that is finished is at best wholly out of date and tacky. You wonder how this is going to be much better.

Working with Al and his crew of 4 for our full basement remodel was a great experience that resulted in a beautiful outcome. 
 Initial consultation was very helpful in discussing the scope of what we wanted and he could provide.  The 3D renderings that
 Al provided were enormously useful (and helped us choose him as our contractor) for both visualizing the final look of the 
basement and even choosing wall colors.  
We made a number of changes as the project progressed and Al was amazingly accommodating, helpful, and worked within our
 budget. In fact, he came in under every estimate he provided.  He is always easy to reach by phone, always inspects the work 
being done, and will make his crew repeat work if it's not up to his standards (which happened twice).  He worked well with other contractors (gas man, foundation wall repair guy, egress window installers) and when we had an issue with an egress 
window, even called up the owner and chewed him out on our behalf to make sure it was done properly. Personally, Al and the members of his crew are the nicest people--easy to talk to, trustworthy, honest, and genuinely 
determined to please us.  I would hire them again in a heartbeat and if you're considering refinishing your basement, you should too.

Al recently finished remodeling our basement to accommodate our daughter moving home.  His professional talent was evident right away with the design he presented.  There is a bedroom tucked away on the side of a family room.  The bath is off the bedroom.  There is still a portion of the basement that is unfinished for storage. We decided not to wall in the bedroom leaving the possibility for other options later. We are thrilled with the results.

Al and his team at Acumen Builders just finished our 2,300 sq. ft. basement.

What had been nothing but a concrete slab floor and walls and an exposed ceiling is now beautifully finished all around.  The home theater was particularly well done with chair rails and crown molding as well as a raised rear seat platform.

The new full bathroom also came out great, especially the tile work.

Through it all, Al and his team dealt expertly with my many small changes and kept the whole project on schedule.  He also handled all the permits with no distraction to me.  Having done basement remodeling before in another state with other contractors, I can definitely say that Acumen Builders are a top-flight operation, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a major home renovation.

We recently had our basement finished by Acumen Construction Co. The process was very smooth. Al came to give us the estimate and understood exactly what we wanted, he even had some ideas we hadn’t thought of. He took his measurements and begin sending us possible layouts. We had some changes and after a bit of back and forth we had everything sorted the way we wanted.

Once the project began, Al's team were here every day until the framing was done and in 4 days the drywall went in and was taped and spackled, then sanded and painted. Chris returned to finish the doors, trim and extra electrical I requested. I believe the whole thing took about 10 to 12 days and it looks just spectacular.

What I came to discover about Al and Acumen Construction was that he has a uniquely American business. He gives good workers a good job and he gets a great job from them. They were all courteous and professional at all times. We really couldn’t be happier.
